We’ve incorporated many unique features into the Southern Living Custom Builder Showcase Home. The kitchen features a full on “dirty kitchen” and the filtration system is a technological feat but the feature that sticks out most is the starlight barrel ceiling we’ve created in the foyer of this stunning home.
Using fiber optics Ted has created a star field in the front entry. The barrel ceiling follows the radius of the front door and while the ceiling is high and awe inspiring inside this home, it feels down to earth with the beautiful star lights that seem to twinkle as you pass through.
Each fiberoptic filament is the width of a human hair and needs to be placed by hand one at a time. The fiber optics are strung through the ceiling and have an LED light box in the attic.  Holes are drilled into the ceiling for each filament – at least 300 for this star field – and then strung through. After placing all the filaments the fiber optic filaments are trimmed to be flush with the ceiling. It’s a time consuming process but well worth the investment when you walk through this amazing star field.

You can see them being installed in this image of the entryway of the Southern Living Custom Builder Showcase Home.
This isn’t the same ceiling but it gives you an idea of what it will look like when completed. Usually we install the star field in the home theater but for this home we wanted to do something different and unexpected.
