If you’ve seen even one episode of HGTV’s hit TV show, Fixer Upper, then this trend is no surprise to you! While Chip and Joanna Gaines may have turned shiplap into a household favorite, this trend has been around for quite some time. Perfect for a variety of uses, it’s no surprise shiplap has become so popular. Keep reading for some of our favorite ways to use shiplap in home design.

Wall Paneling

You can use shiplap on your walls in any number of ways. Go the extra mile with wall-to-wall shiplap or keep it simple with a shiplap accent wall. Another great option is to use shiplap as wainscoting throughout a room. However you choose to use shiplap on your walls, there’s no denying the finished result will be beautiful.

Kitchen Backsplash

While we’re big fans of a tile backsplash, swapping out tile for shiplap is an unexpected way to use it in your home. Shiplap adds texture to your kitchen design, especially when your kitchen is rocking an all-white color palette. Worried about spills and stains from splashing water or splattered food? For a little extra protection, simply add a clear polyurethane coating before installing the shiplap.

Fireplace Accent

Shiplap is a wonderful way to accentuate your fireplace. There’s a variety of ways to do this but many homeowners choose to install shiplap behind the fireplace. Others like to create a focal point using shiplap above the fireplace as this homeowner did. For a more modern touch, paint the shiplap in a dark, contrasting color to really make it pop.

Ceiling Accent

Ceiling accents have become more and more popular in home design recently. From tray ceilings to wood paneling, a good ceiling accent adds visual interest and draws the eye upwards. Shiplap is a great alternative to traditional wood paneling, as it is relatively inexpensive and can be painted or left as-is for a more rustic look.
