Morning Star Builders LTD received the Houston’s Best Custom Home Design Award from $1.2 to $1.8 Million at the Greater Houston Builder’s Association “Houston’s BEST” presentation on September 18th. This Tuscan inspired architecture styled home reveals a stunning 6100 sq ft of livable space, featuring an inner courtyard with swimming pool and a fountain detail. The 1 ½ story home includes a 3rd story tower overlooking the golf course. The clients of this home have traveled internationally and found Tuscan architectural intriguing as a platform for their own personal home. After a trip to southern California with the Morning Star Builders design team the owners proceeded with a design with the pool/inner courtyard as the focal point of the home. Morning Star Builders is a design/build company and David Patterson of DWP Architects was brought in to join the team to design this home. The dramatic 2 story great room features an oversized 2 sided fireplace connecting the living and dining rooms. True to Tuscan architecture the room features massive cedar exposed beams and a brick and stone exterior with tile roof. The entertainment system features a sliding bookcase to reveal the flat screen TV. The breakfast room boasts a groin ceiling with spectacular views of the backyard. The exterior elements of brick are replicated in the interior with numerous brick arches.

Ted Cummins, principal of Morning Star Builders LTD and a Graduate Master Builder, commented, “The design of this house produced the feel the clients were choosing to replicate. Because of the pool’s location our design team, pool designer and engineers worked diligently to ensure adequate drainage in the event of a Houston downpour. In fact Hurricane Ike provided just that test while the house was under construction.”

In addition, Morning Star Builders LTD also received Houston’s Best Award for Remodeled Specialty Room at the Greater Houston Builders Award presentation on September 18th. The “man cave” remodel included a 4 car garage with 14’ceilings for car lifts, a sports bar, game room for pool table and shuffleboard tables, exercise room and guest quarters. The challenge of this project was to make this additional space appear it was part of the original design of the home.

Cummins commented on this project, “The clients purchased the home from us 5 years ago and needed this additional space to meet their entertaining and car storage needs.“

Cummins describes Morning Star Builders in this way, “Our time-tested and customer-appreciated approach to custom home building continues to be driven by a passion to provide a quality home with design details which reflect the owner’s character. The union of quality craftsmanship with attention to architectural detail has been our hallmark during the past decade of building new custom homes.
