May is here and that means Cinco de Mayo and time to celebrate Mom! There are many great events in and around the Houston metro to share with your mother this Mother’s Day. From a champagne brunch cruise to a buffet at the Houston Aquarium you’re sure to find something to do with mom. Later in the month there are art festivals and comic book conventions. All great reasons to get out of the house and have a little fun.
Here are more family friendly events in Houston during May.
Cinco de Mayo at The Pastry War
When: May 5th, 2015, 4pm – Midnight
Where: 310 Main Street,
Houston, TX 77022
Cinco de Mayo, Mexico’s celebration of the unlikely victory at the Battle of Puebla, has become a somewhat misconstrued and ridiculous American celebration of our neighbors to the South, but why should The Pastry War bar shy away from a good time? They’re going to party! By the way…Puebla is one of Mexico’s most exciting mezcal-producing states. Bobby Heugel, Alba Huerta and general manager Francisco Terrazas will all be behind the bar, serving up cocktails from the brand new cocktail menu launching that day with seven new cocktails.
Happy hour will last all day. In addition to their famous tamales, queso and salsa, guests can nosh on elotes (Mexican street corn) on the stick. The bartenders have been practicing their thumb wrestling skills for weeks, in preparation for the Luchador Thumb Wrestling Competition, which will begin at 7pm. Sign up to participate between 4pm and 6:30pm and get your thumb painted at the bar (or show up with your own design). The winner will walk away with a $200 gift certificate to Hugo’s, in addition to bragging rights.
